Had a lovely walk round a couple of local villages: got very wet feet and frizzy hair and I got blown around all over the place, but it was good to get some fresh air.

None of this bothered the local wildlife: when passing through a church yard, I noticed that the gravestones were covered in ladybird larve hatching out in to ladybirds, hundreds of them. I have never seen this happening before. And when I got back home, there was an enormous grasshopper sitting on the boot of my car!

I have only one regret: I should have work my new walking boots! My feet and the bottoms of my jean are soaking!

Did no real work whatsoever today, and have managed to trash the house. Somehow I managed to get more of my dinner on the floor than on a plate, and now its nearly midnight and I am sitting here drinking cider, eating garlick bread (the only thing in the freezer that doesn't require any proper preparation) and watching CSI.

Brain still on the blink!

I have deleted you. Very sorry, its nothing personal. I just don't have time to read your posts in French and German any more. I feel a little guilty not to be widening my horizons in this way anymore, but there you are.

I also apologise to those poeple who have not blogged for two years - I have deleted you too, but I doubt you will even notice I am gone.

Actually it was a project that I have been working on for about 18 months and something that I have been really enthusiastic about desperate to get going with...but now here I am with the time to do it and no real distractions and my brain just won't behave.

So far this morning I have done anything possibe not to get on. Tidied my desk. Tidied under my desk. Checked and replied to my emails, even the ones from Misco and M&S that I usually just automatically delete. I have read them all, meticulously. I have faffed about on face book. Re-read this weeks post-secret. Polished my desk. Looked up Open University courses (I quite fancy the forensic psychology degree). Checked my bank balance. etc etc etc.

And now its time for lunch.

Not one of my most productive days I'm afraid!

 Comments

Just how hard can it be to buy a sofa???

Have now been to M&S twice in two days and still haven't managed to order the sofa I want. Should have ordered it last summer when it was in the sale, but then decided that I had another priority to save up for.

Anyway, the old sofa is ok, but it was from my old flat, and so isn't quite big enough for us, and there is space for a larger one in the new house.

The new one however, is only on special offer at the minute in "new" season fabrics, not the old fabric that I want - until Thursday that is!!! Also, have had to measure every dimention of the new sofa, and the doors at home to make sure that it will fit through,(I know someone who tragically made that mistake before!).

In other news, I have purchased a new pair of walking books, and a new waterproof jacket and hopr to get out somewhere walking in the next week or so to wear them in!

Plan to have a big clear out of my clothes later today, might even have a clothes-swap party (thats not nearly so dirty as it sounds!)

Also, looks like my cousin will still be in "processing" for another four weeks before she is finally deported.

 Comments

Lost in the system.

Having spend the last week on edge waiting for a phone call from my cousin who is about to be deported from the US, I learned about an hour ago that she is not "in the air" or even "flying out tomorrow" as her poor husband has been told only after phoning every hour on the hour for a whole day. Instead she is "being processed" which may take up to two weeks.

Ok, I don't really understand the system over there, but why is is ok, to refuse to give accurate information to family, including her husband, about where she is and when she will be sent home. Considering that they are refusing to let her out of the country without anything but her passport and the clothes she is wearing (ie, no phone or credit cards), it would actually be quite useful for someone in the family to know which airport to expect her to arrive at, so we can at least go and bring her home.

 Comments

Normality reigns!

Funny how writing something down suddenly makes you do something about it.

I trying to get the spare room tidy so my cousin can stay, I have lapsed back to my old OCD ways, and while the spare room isn't exactly spick and span, I have managed to clear out my own wardrobe, polish the inside of it , put away all my winterclothes in to plactic storage boxes, throw away nine pairs of shoes and all the broken coat hangers, and sort a further pile of clothes and shoes for recycling.

Kitchen is next on the hit list.

Don't feel relaxed any more, but do feel back to normal!

 Comments

Its official - I am a slob!

Arrived back from a lovely holiday on Friday to a nice clean house. So how come it now looks like I have been burgled?

I am sitting here in my pj's because I have nothing to wear that doesn't need ironing and there are piles of washing and washing up everywhere.

Not sure what happened in that two weeks that I have been away, that has turned my usual ocd need to keep going round the place with flash wipes, into a lady of leisure.

Could it be that I am actually relaxed for the first time this year??

Just one slight problem. My cousin is currently being deported and as I speak she is on a plane on its way here (bigger problem: US immigration will not release the flight number or even the destination airport - very helpful, NOT!). What will she think of the mess I am currently living in?

 Comments

RIP 99p New Look Cardie!

One of the best things about the last recession was the cheap clothes (although now I am older I know that cheap clothes are immoral and exploitative). However, one of my best buys in 1995 was a little lacy cardie from New Look, which cost 99p in their sale.

Much to the disgrace of several of my friends I have been wearing and patching this old cardie up for the past 14 years. Until last week that is, when I got it out of my suitcase while on holday and found that there was nothing left to patch up on the elbow.

I have been looking for a replacement for this little cardie for quite sometime now, but haven't been able to find anything I like in the right colour. So today, I have purchased a book full of knitting patterns for cardies, so I can knit one myself in whatever colour I feel like! Surely evenings sat watching TV and knitting have got to be far more productive than wasting them findling about on facebook!

However, it is still a sad day when my favourite bargain has to be consigned to the bin.

Tiger worms!!!

I bought an "original organics" junior wormery, and had to send off for my worms with a postcard. The poor things arrived in the post today (They must have a headache from hitting the floor after being dropped through the letter box!).

Stupidly though, between buying the wormery a week ago and the worms arriving today, I have managed to lose the instructions. So, I had to try to remember what to do with it. Hopefully, they will be ok, they have all disappeared into the worm bedding, but haven't touched their food yet. (You would think they would be hungry after their trip, wouldn't you?)

In my office we have people living in three different boroughs, so we are doing our bit for the environment by swapping our rubbish!!!!

Why? Because no joined up thinking is going on between the bordering authorities and they are all collecting different things for recycling. So, as my doorstep collection won't take card (actually you are lucky if they take anything made of paper that wasn't originally a NEWSpaper), I am now swapping it and some more dubious plastic items (such as liquitab BOXES - type one plastic)for glass and type 1 and 2 plastic BOTTLES which they will collect.

We are doing this because we care about our effect on our environment.

But the real question is this: If we can organise this between us, why can't three neighbouring boroughs of the same county do the same. It would be far more efficient!

 Comments

Work sucks. Its official.

I need to come up with a business idea of my own. I am just sick of the daily grind, all the time for someone else to take the credit. I'm sure I could do well if I struck out on my own.

Problem is...That fantastic idea just hasn't turned up yet

One of my things is to use the tumble drier less. Today my shiny new brabantia drier arrived - it looks like a rotary drier but it attached to a wall and folds up flat.

I decided this was needed, as my current washing line is in a perfect position to garote anyone who steps out of the back door! (This won't look good next time I have a barbeque!)

In other news: I am seriously thinking about packing in my gym membership. They too have hoiked up the price recently, (but seem to be spending less on on their cleaning staff).

Today I have been making up jars of pickled shallots (to my mum's recipe!)and the house now smells of a rather unpleasent mixture of onions and vinegar. It'll be worth it when I can eat them in a few weeks time.

In other news I think I need to take a photo of my pumpkin seeds. I think one is actually alien spawn - you wouldn't believe how long it has grown since this morning!!!!!

My Aldi compost bin that I had for a few years is full and falling to pieces, so I thought I could do with a new one. However, the price of £40+ has been putting me off for quite a while. Howver at the weekend I came across this website where the 330litre bin cost only £10 with £1 discount for ordering online! I ordered it on Sunday, and my shiny new bin was waiting on my doorstep when I got home from work yesterday!

Unfortunately, I should have read the dimensions, because it was too big to fit through my front door I had to squash it (and several of my fingers in the process) to get it out into the back yard

No. 2 The joy of pumpkins
A further propagator excitement this morning was that 4 out of 7 pumpkin seeds have started to grow. I have tried many time to get pumpkin seeds to grow but have never managed to germinate any at all! Whoohoo!!

 Comments

I don't know how I ever managed!

Without my new electric propogator!

Maybe this is a little sad, but every morning I rush down to see how my seeds are getting on, I am enjoying unprecidented success! (13 tomato plants, 5 aubergines, 2 chillis, and more basil and mint than you can shake a stick at!

In other news I have decided to reduce the use of my tumble drier, so I had ordered a wallmounted fold away drier.

I think these are sure signs of getting old when you get excited by these things - or maybe its a sign of contentment maybe?

Still no visits to the gym

But I regularly weigh myself, and over the last three years my weight has only increased by 1 kilo!

How can this be?

Perhaps I am getting shorter?

Have eated small portions all week.
2. No takeaways
3. Trips to the gym: still none
4. Took my own shopping bags to town with me yesterday so I could buy veg from themarket without the use of wasteful carrier bags. Unfortunately, I left them in the car on the top floor of the the multistorey carpark and only realised when I had gone down the eigth flights of stairs to the bottom (tried to retrieve them but my other half thought I had gone insane).
5. Drank two pints of cider.

Verdict: Could do better.

Funny how work manages to do what 2 pints of bitter, 1/2 a bottle of white wine, 1/2 a bottle of rose, and 4 glasses of champagne didn't do on new years eve!

When's the next holiday????

Walked to the shops today: Remembered my shopping bag! All vegetables purchase were organic.

So far then:

no booze consumed
two meals with smaller portions
no wasteful supermarket carrier bags used
no trips to the gym (oh well, no-one's perfect)

Question is... can I keep it up? It is only day two after all.

1. To eat smaller portions.
2. To go to the gym at least once a week.
3. To get my work life balance sorted so that I do less work, and spend more time on myself.
4. To decorate the dinning room.
5. To remember to take my shopping bags to Tesco so that I use less plastic bags.
6. To grow more of my own vegetables.

 Comments

Plans for next years Christmas!

Having spent many frustrating hours Christmas shopping this year, I have decided that next year all my family will be getting homemade pickles and preserves for Christmas instead!

I'm so tired.
I don't know why, but I am exhausted.
I have to go to bed as soon as I get home from work. I have had to cut short two evenings out with friends because I can barely keep my eyes open. The house is a tip because I haven't been able to quite keep up with it.

I would do anything just to sleep through Christmas day this year.
