How can this be?

by SuburbanHousewife @ 2008-01-06 - 12:28:20

Over the last two years I have gone up two dress sizes, and several people have made coded hints such as "wow, you are looking healthy" (code for "when did you get so fat?". But I regularly weigh myself, and over the last three years my weight has only increased by 1 kilo!

How can this be?

Perhaps I am getting shorter?

Yes, I never thought of that!

i really think thats true... the clothes makers are inline with the fashion editors to make people feel shit and they all have shares in gyms and diet books/food etc...

Maybe you just look ... healthy?

But dress sizes are weird these days - I bought a pair of trousers for work in Tesco, trousers fitted perfectly, went back to buy the matching skirt, same size, the skirt was a good two sizes too big! Also I used to be a 10-12 and somehow I'm now an 8-10 although I'm the same weight I've always been?

Yes! I wish they would sort it out, they wouldn't get away with it if it was food or booze!

Don't know about dresses (at least not publically) but I bought some jeans a while back and the assistant said to my OH that I needed a 30" waist. She was right I did, and probably could have fitted in 28" quite comfortably. And yet our tape measure has me much closer to 32". Is it an EU thing? Have they somehow increased the size of the standard inch?

As for coded messages, my OH always looks good (IMO), but she lost a fair bit of weight over the last couple of years. She didn't look overweight before... but since she's lost the pounds, people keep telling her how well she looks (which we take as code for "girl you looked crap before")

xx
